I’m In Love With My Milkman

Monday, November 9th, 2009

I have never been a milk drinker.  Never.

When I met Daddy he drank about a gallon of milk a day.

Because of his influence, over the years I have had milk with dinner most nights.

Then along came the Royal Crest Dairy salesman.  He gave us a sample and let me tell you, I am hooked.

I love that it’s delivered in the wee hours of the morning.  Long before even the earliest alarm clock (Daddy’s) goes off.  It comes on a day when we don’t have school and we spend the morning being lazy.  It’s the perfect start to a lazy day. (more…)

The Haves and Have-Nots

Friday, July 11th, 2008

The lists have begun. I have things to finish in Monkeys room before I allow myself to make purchases for Caterpillar. BUT, that hasn’t stopped me from figuring out exactly what I want so when the time comes all I need is my car keys, my list and my wallet.

As I am pondering all of these choices, I realized we made some purchases with Monkey that were a complete waste. We made some that were not a total loss, but have been passed along because they weren’t a good fit for us, and some that Caterpillar will get to use for years to come. Here’s the skinny:

DIDN’T MAKE THE CUT

  1. The Diaper Genie Twistaway. This item is hard to use due to all of the twisting required, and does not guard odors. Additionally, you have to buy their bags. What a waste of money. I did see they have new and improved version, but we haven’t tried it. We replaced this with a Diaper Champ before Monkey was able to say “What stinks?”, and we never looked back.
  2. Winnie the Pooh Bedding: We purchased the whole set thinking it would last well beyond Monkey since it had blues, greens, yellows and pinks. When Monkey was about two months old I realized if I never saw Winnie the Pooh again, it would be too soon. I suppose what they say is right – everything in moderation.
  3. The Ticking Timebomb Clock: Again, Winnie the Pooh… However, the most annoying thing was the tick-tock we listened to for hours on end while rocking and feeding Monkey. This time around we will be going digital just to be on the safe side. (more…)

A Bucket Full of Fun

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

My sister-in-law called yesterday and at the last minute she found out she had the day off. We loaded up the kids and headed out to Pirates Cove. I had never been there before, and I just have to say this place is FANTASTIC. When we arrived it was busy, but we were able to find an up-front parking spot. We unloaded the kids, along with our whole barrage of pool gear and food.

Because the aquatic center is owned by the city of Englewood, the prices are very reasonable and the facility is well maintained. As we were looking for a table, a family offered us one right in front of the leisure pool. What a great start to the day!

The area that we were in front of had water only a foot and a half deep, and contained a pirate ship that had water guns, hoses with water spraying everywhere, and the best feature of all – THE DUMP BUCKET.

The dump bucket has 750 gallons of water that fills up, the bell rings, the kids gather and then it dumps all over the pool. Kids go running, and I couldn’t snap pictures fast enough without getting wet.

Monkey thought this was the best thing ever, although I don’t think there was anything we saw yesterday that she wasn’t excited about.

Monkey splashed around all day, rode in the lazy river with me, and wouldn’t even stop to eat until around 4pm. You know she’s having fun when she won’t stop to grab a bite to eat.

The older kids rode on the 35-foot slides, played in the huge sand play area and even humored Monkey by hanging out with her in the leisure pool.

All in all, it was a great day and we will be returning again very soon.
